Xinomavro 2009, P.G.I. Macedonia

Variety: Xinomavro, clone V6 (50%) and  V3 (50%)
Region: Krasna, Rodohori, Naoussa, latitude 41o, altitude 260-270 m.
Climate: Mediterranean with semi-continental tendencies
Soil: SC (Sandy clay), pH=7, for the clone V6, SCL (Sandy clay loam)   pH=7,7, CaCO3=5% for the clone V3
Density of plantation: 3000 plants per hectare
Production per plant: 2 Kg
Soil cultivation: Permanent grass cover, no cultivation
Production method: Our philosophy is that the creation of well balanced vineyards is imperative for the production of high quality wines. Certified biological method of cultivation.
Vinification method: Skin conduct at 12-14oC for 72 h, fermentation at graduated temperatures, max temperature 29o C

Ageing: in American (50%) and French (50%) 225 l oak barrels for 12 months  
Analytical characteristics: Alcoholic content 13,2%, acidity 5,4 g/l, pH 3.52
Tasting notes: Red cherry colour, cherries and berries on the nose, violet, light earthy notes, dry tomato, the classic sweet but not simple fruit of Xinomavro. Persistent, polished berry fruit on the palate, earthy and slightly spicy notes, moderate mineral notes, delicately bitter medicinal herbs in the background, fine-grained tannins, and a good acidity  balanced by the juicy red fruit.
