2009 Macedonia Xinomavro ^ Haroula Spinthiropoulou’s winery is in the higher, cooler outskirts of Naoussa, just on the other side of the appellation’s border, which is why this is labeled Macedonia. Her 2009 shows how delicate xinomavro can be, the wine lean and herbal, the acidity giving it a vibrant nervosity. The tannins are firm yet fine, the flavors more dried tomato and black olive than cherry. It’s a hunger-inducing red for braised lamb. § Verity Wine Partners, NY
